Death is but what, a phase between two lives
A wayfarer will never be given the highest knowledge. For someone who wants to know the truth, the reality, there needs to be a powerful urge to know. A superficial curiosity will not be sufficient. A deep inquiry should start in oneself, questioning what is the purpose of life, what do I want, who am I, where am I, what is this all about? An inquiry of that kind which is so deep and authentic only can give rise to the highest knowledge.
The last thought in our mind before falling asleep will be the first thought when we wake up, so also will the last impression in our mind come to us in the next life as the first impression. We see in one family, children are born with the same genes, but they turn out very different. The same parents, even with twins, have their differences. What is the cause? Though siblings may have many similarities; physical, mental and emotional, the souls in those bodies are different. They are different because there is something different that comes from the previous impressions held in their minds.
Our mind is energy and energy cannot be destroyed. Energy is indestructible. The mind is enormous energy. What happens to this mind when it leaves the body? The mind is capsuled in our life and floats off like an invisible balloon and it remains like that until it again comes back into another body.
Knowledge of death makes you immortal. It’s wrong to even say, “makes you immortal.” The knowledge makes you aware that you are immortal. Do you see there is a difference? You are already immortal. Something in you never dies. You might have noticed that when you look at people you feel they have all gotten older, but you don’t feel you have aged, does anyone feel they have become old? If you are in the normal state of mind, even though you may be eighty-years-old, you never feel that you have become old. To others, you may look very old, but deep inside you, you never feel that you are old, because there is something in you that never ages.
Have you noticed that something in you is not changing or not ageing? We fail to notice it. We are so busy that we take no time to notice or observe the truth that we are. Just stand by the beach all by yourself and see, “Have I aged? Have I changed? Or is there something in me that is the same from my beginning?”
Your beginning is the same as your end. Life is a circle. Death brings birth and birth leads towards death. Death needs to be celebrated, not mourned. Of course, when someone close to you dies, there is a lot of sorrow, sadness comes, because someone, walking, talking and relating to you is suddenly gone! Where are they? They are nowhere! Just the body is there, they are not the body.
Where has the spirit gone? And ancient practice in India, in practice even today, when someone dies, for 10 days the family is allowed to cry, and mourn, but for 10 days on ly. On the 11th day, they need to celebrate. The ancient seers who started this tradition knew the human mind so well.
